Welcome

Welcome to :tutorialcafe:!

TutorialCafe is a learning hub dedicated to bringing you all the tutorials and helpful resources you'll ever need to get yourself started on your creative journey, or to hone your skills along the way.

For a list of the subfolders and their explanations, please read Gallery Explanations.

If you can't find a tutorial to help you, then drop us a note and we'll be more than happy to assist you in your quest for the perfect resource. Otherwise, feel free to browse and enjoy your stay!
Hey guys, MAYGUSTA here!

The group has gone under a huge overhaul. When this group was created, it was originally intended to be for drawing tutorials, but TutorialCafe has grown far beyond that intention and now is a hub for all kinds of creative, artistic tutorials. We have so many tutorials, that they didn't really fit into the original subfolders any more and so all of the subfolders have been reshuffled and all deviations have been temporarily moved into featured. This will change soon as they are one-by-one recategorised. This is a long process as we will examine each tutorial to make sure it is put in the perfect subfolder. For a list of the new subfolders and what they will contain, please read Gallery Explanations, a journal on the matter.

Don't worry, though. This won't make too much of a difference, and I hope to get this done and completed within the week. Hopefully, by next week, the gallery will be much easier to navigate and submit.

On the subject of submitting, something went by unnoticed for three whole years. No one can submit to anything other than the featured gallery. This is... really not okay and I am INCREDIBLY sorry for this. It was corrected as soon as it was brought to my attention and so things should be running smoothly, now.

Contributors can submit to any folder without needing a vote.
Members can submit to any folder and need one vote with a month-long expiration.
Anyone can submit to any folder and need one vote with a week-long expiration.

Don't worry too much about the expiration, I'm normally very on the ball. If it DOES expire, however, feel free to note me, note the group, or just resubmit and it should all go through.

Thank you so much for sticking with us, and I hope you had a great holiday!

I used to use Open Canvas a lot and had a lot of difficulty in finding specific tutorials on brush settings. In the end, I found that a lot of OC users included a bit on brush settings in the middle of their other tutorials about colouring, blending, lining, etc. In the end I found a few useful tutorials, which I've just had a quick hunt for.

These are from quite a while ago, but I've had another quick look just now and can't find any tutorials directed specifically at brush settings. In fact, I can't find many tutorials added that recently at all (which is a shame, because Open Canvas is such a beautiful piece of software which I would probably still use if I didn't have a Macbook), I think everyone has migrated to Sai. However, having a quick read of even some of these older tutorials, a lot of users mention how they alter their brush settings because Open Canvas relies so heavily on altering the brush.

The third link has a really good section on brush settings, and though it is aimed at Open Canvas 1.1, I don't think things have changed THAT much within the program (if it's not broken, why fix it - right?), so that should be of some help to you.

Hopefully this helps. I'll keep having a hunt for anything more.

Oh my goodness thank you so much! I've been kind of struggling with this program and a lot of the tutorials are way to advanced even for beginners. I think these will help a lot. :3

Open Canvas isn't the most intuitive program from my experience, but if you keep at it, the art that comes from it has a very unique feel and it's almost always really beautiful. I'm glad I could help, if you need anything else, just let us know : D

Excuse me, but when I click to contribute art, it only says I can put it in the featured folder. Is there anything you can do about that?
